South Peterborough PCN holds special event for local carers

Dawn Farey, the personalised care team lead at South Peterborough PCN, said: ‘South Peterborough PCN recently hosted a successful Carers Event in Peterborough, welcoming patients from all four of our surgeries: Yaxley, New Queen Street and Stanground, Old Fletton, and Wansford.

‘Prior to the event, we reached out to all patients coded as carers, inviting them along with their family and friends. We were pleased to welcome external organisations, both local and national, who provide valuable support to carers.

‘Thanks to Hayley Leckie’s outreach, a generous donation of health and beauty products allowed us to create thoughtful goodie bags, which were a delightful surprise for our carers.

‘The event was a true team effort. Helen Dodds from New Queen Street, Carole Gill from Yaxley and Ellie Martin with support from Dawn Farey and Hayley Leckie, worked tirelessly to make the day such a success. Helen gathered a wealth of literature from various external organisations, while Carole created a comprehensive Carers’ Information Sheet.

‘Ellie Martin, our Health and Wellbeing Coach, offered health checks including blood pressure and weight measurements - an invaluable service appreciated by many attendees.

‘On the day, 13 external organisations joined us alongside 40 patients and their family and friends. The atmosphere was heartfelt, with some very emotional moments as patients found a safe space to share and receive the support they had been seeking.

‘One highlight that stood out was when a representative from one of the organisations praised our team’s deep knowledge of our patients. She expressed how wonderful it was to see familiar faces and witness the strong, positive relationships we have built with our community.’

Patients were very positive and rated the session as ‘extremely useful’.  One said: ‘Meeting everyone involved was helpful. Thank you for the opportunity to attend’ while another said: ‘It was very informative and well organised.’
