Meet New Queen Street nurse Aby Rutter
Practice Nurse Aby Rutter has been impressed with the training and development that she has had since joining Lakeside.
She worked in hospitals and prisons, before moving to the New Queen Street Surgery at the start of this year and has had a range of training relevant to the role. She said: ‘I really enjoy the patient contact and am getting used to working with a quite different patient demographic. I have done smear training and also a diabetes module which finishes in November. I was already imms trained but, as I previously worked in a prison, I had never vaccinated children before, but now I run the childhood vaccination clinic.
‘I work full time and, apart from pre-diabetes reviews I see all my patients face to face and really enjoy my work. At Lakeside you are encouraged to progress and that is definitely better for staff retention because staff are getting what they want and are happy to have that training. If I have needed to learn anything I have been put on a course as soon as the course is available which I really appreciate. I am pretty ambitious and would like to do my prescribing course eventually.’
Head of Nursing and AHPs, Vicky Ward said: ‘Since joining Aby has made so much progress and been so willing to take on additional training, all of which we have been happy to support, not only for the benefit of patient care but also for Aby’s career aspirations as an engaged and committed professional.’
