Pharmacy First Drop-in Events
Patients and local community learn how to get quick care through Pharmacy First at two drop-in events.
Patients and local residents in Whittlesey and surrounding areas attended two Think Pharmacy First drop-in events at The New Queen Street and Stanground Surgeries in February.
The two events, held on Monday 3 February 2025 and Monday 10 February 2025, aimed to raise awareness of the NHS Pharmacy First scheme and how it helps people access quick and convenient healthcare for common conditions without needing to see a GP.
Attendees had the chance to speak directly with healthcare professionals about how community pharmacists are specially trained to assess and treat seven minor conditions and even prescribe medication when needed.

Lyndsay Cocks, Practice Manager at The New Queen Street and Stanground Surgeries, said: “It was fantastic to see so many patients interested in the Pharmacy First scheme. Many people didn’t realise that community pharmacists can assess and treat conditions like sinusitis (for those aged 12 years and over), shingles (for those aged over 18 years old), sore throats (for those aged 5 years and over), earaches (for those aged between 1 and 17), impetigo (for those aged 1 year and over), infected insect bites (for those aged 1 year and over), and UTIs (for women aged 16–64 years).”
“The scheme is designed to be quick, easy, and incredibly convenient. By visiting a local pharmacy first, patients can often get the help they need without filling out an Anima questionnaire online, waiting on the phone, or booking an appointment with a GP.”
“The feedback from both events has been really positive, with many patients appreciating how simple and effective the service is. This service really helps take pressure off GP appointments and A&E, ensuring that those who need urgent care are seen faster.”
For those who were unable to attend the drop-in events, information about the Pharmacy First scheme including how it can benefit you and your family is available on our website. Select 'Request an appointment' and choose the 'Pharmacy First' option from the dropdown menu.
